The Little things

I am a believer in doing the little things – things that may go unnoticed or may receive recognition.

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

Initial Thoughts

How could you disagree with this quote? Because I’m a believer in positive thinking, I wouldn’t disagree. But, lets’ be honest, life has it’s way of getting us down. People have issues with their health, with their families, financial misfortune, etc. Being negative doesn’t originate from nothing, negative situations put people in rotten moods and fragile states of mind. And there is no doubt that this can carry over into everyday interactions with strangers and friends alike. For these reasons, the unknowns surrounding people we run into everyday, acts of kindness typically mean more to the receiver than the giver.

Digging Deeper

In my profession I often hear and read about the “giver’s gain” – and the gain is true happiness. Acts of kindness, while small at times, do not go overlooked. Whether it’s waiting a few more seconds as you hold a door open for somebody, or going completely out of your way to help a person, friend, colleague, family member, or complete stranger – what you do, your acts of kindness, truly count. And the fact is, the more acts of kindness you can dole out, the happier of a person you will be.

What to Walk Away With

At the very least, your acts of kindness will give you a boost of happiness. Often times it’s simply smiling and asking someone about their day. Giving a compliment is a great, simple act of kindness that can mean the world to someone. It’s the small things that can go a long way in making a person’s day. The beautiful thing is – it’s transparent. In other words, what you do for others comes through in their smile, laugh, gratitude, etc. – and every time it’s a great assurance that your act of kindness in no way – is wasted.
